NEET 2026 Eligibility Criteria: Age Limit, Attempt Limit & Class 12 Requirement

NEET 2026 Attempt Limit

NTA uses equi-percentile equating to normalize scores across shifts. If a shift is harder, the raw score distribution shifts lower, meaning a lower raw score corresponds to the same relative performance as a higher raw score in an easier shift.

In simple terms: a lower score in a tough shift can give the same or better percentile than a higher score in an easy shift. Do not compare your raw marks directly with friends who appeared in different shifts.

NEET 2026 Educational Qualification: Class 12 Requirement

Qualifying examinations: Candidates must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board. Candidates who are appearing for their Class 12 board exams in 2026 are also eligible to apply on a provisional basis. Such candidates will be granted provisional admission subject to submission of passing certificates and fulfilling the minimum marks criteria by the deadline specified by NTA and counselling authorities.

Mandatory Subjects in Class 12

To be eligible for NEET 2026, candidates must have studied and passed the following subjects in Class 12:

  • Physics

Mathematics is not required. No, Mathematics is not required for NEET. Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English.

All science subjects must include a practical component. Candidates must have passed the theory and practical exams in each of these subjects separately.

Minimum Marks Required in Class 12

The minimum aggregate marks are calculated only from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology taken together. English marks are not included in this calculation.

CategoryMinimum Aggregate in PCB
General / EWS50%
OBC / SC / ST40%
General PwD45%
OBC / SC / ST PwD40%

Candidates from the general category must secure at least 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology, while the SC/ST/OBC students should have scored a minimum 40% marks. For PwD candidates, the required percentage in 12th is 45%.
